Lamppost Farm Solar-Powered Pork
For the past few years, we have been buying hogs in the winter and hosting a butchering weekend. The festive nature of these events will only be increased by the addition of our own hogs into the mix. Introducing, our herd of Hereford Pigs. Recently we bought 10 feeder pigs from a farm in Central PA. These pigs are growing well on pasture as they have become part of our animal herd, grazing around and under our goats and cows.
Our plan is to keep two or three females to breed for future sales of pastured pork. A very exciting element of a heritage breed hog is the rich flavor of the meat it produces. We will know soon if this is true for the Hereford Pig. Of course, as with other animals raised on grass pasture, the meat they produce have health positive qualities of omega 3 fats and conjugated linoleic acids...imagine heart-healthy bacon!
Stop by and scratch a back or two of the most friendly and happy pigs in Eastern Ohio.
